There are many great gun control articles on the internet, so it’s quite an honor to be considered the best, even if it is just on some no-name politics blog like this one.
But I don’t think I’m the only person who feels this way, because this one article has been reposted, linked to and commented on thousands of times since being published barely a week ago.
In just 8 days, the article has already collected more than 1800 comments.
It was originally written by Larry Correia and posted on his WordPress.com blog. The article is ridiculously long but it’s a great read. It addresses every single argument FOR gun control and then debunks that argument using facts, logic, history, law and common sense. This is one of those articles that you should print a copy of and store inside a lock box.
The article does such a good job debunking gun control, that I’m just going to link to it and let Larry do all the work. You might consider this a cheap, easy way out, but the article is that good. There’s no point in me trying to reinvent the gun control debate wheel, because Larry’s article has absolutely nailed it. There is not a single letter that I could add to improve the article.
Just a warning though: this is a long article. It’s not something you show to your gun control friends in order to convert them. They’ll probably see how long it is and pass. This is something to save for your own debates. The next time you find yourself in an argument with a gun control advocate, refer back to this article. It addresses pretty much every argument in the book.

Here’s a breakdown of what makes it the best gun control article on the internet:
- Written by an experienced firearm instructor and competition shooter
- Addresses mass shootings
- Provides solutions for making schools safer
- Explains the stupidity behind Gun Free Zones (and includes several alarming statistics)
- Highlights the disgusting role the media plays in all of this
- Addresses mental health
- Explains the myriad of gun control laws that already exist
- Explains how ineffective those laws are
- Explains the problems with defining “assault weapons”
- Why it is stupid to ban magazines with over X capacity
- How the 2nd Amendment works
- What would happen if anyone was stupid enough to try to outright confiscate guns
- A whole bunch of other stuff that I’m forgetting
“The average number of people shot in a mass shooting event when the shooter is stopped by law enforcement: 14. The average number of people shot in a mass shooting event when the shooter is stopped by civilians: 2.5. The reason is simple. The armed civilians are there when it started.”
And one more:
“It doesn’t really make sense to ban guns, because in reality what that means is that you are actually banning effective self-defense. Despite the constant hammering by a news media with an agenda, guns are used in America far more to stop crime than to cause crime.
So how often are guns actually used in self-defense in America? http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcdguse.html
On the high side the estimate runs around 2.5 million defensive gun uses a year, which dwarfs our approximately 16,000 homicides in any recent year, only 10k of which are with guns. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm Of those with guns, only a couple hundred are with rifles. So basically, the guns that the anti-gunners are the most spun up about only account for a tiny fraction of all our murders.
But let’s not go with the high estimate. Let’s go with some smaller ones instead. Let’s use the far more conservative 800,000 number which is arrived at in multiple studies. That still dwarfs the number of illegal shootings. Heck, let’s even run with the number once put out by the people who want to ban guns, the Brady Center, which was still around 108,000, which still is an awesome ratio of good vs. bad.
So even if you use the worst number provided by people who are just as biased as me but in the opposite direction, gun use is a huge net positive. Or to put it another way, the Brady Center hates guns so much that they are totally cool with the population of a decent sized city getting raped and murdered every year as collateral damage in order to get what they want.”
